The PUNCH had reported that a teacher of the school identified simply as Mrs Gibson was said to have flogged the Junior Secondary School II pupil for failing to do his assignment.

The Ministry of Education had also inaugurated a committee to investigate the death of the student.

But the old students in a statement on Friday said there was the need for justice to be served on the matter to prevent a recurrence.

The statement signed by the association’s Secretary General, Ojeabulu Emmanuel, called for calm, promising that the association would contribute its quota to ensure that justice was served on the matter.

It read in part, “While the family appreciates deeply the interest and show of solidarity by the National Executive Council of FEDGOKOSA and USOSA, it reiterated its interest on the matter currently under investigation not necessarily to victimise any particular person or persons but to achieve justice that will serve as a deterrent to such future ugly occurrences.

“The particular emphasis is on the negligence of the handlers of the distinguished institution to which we all are and have been proud of. The family indeed did confirm the varied, over bloated and very many skewed versions of narratives on the matter on various social media platforms for which it cautioned NEC especially as the matter is under due investigation.

“The intention and quest for justice is therefore to see to the straightness and proper functionality of the people and good system of the Kwali institution from the handlers of the hostels, classrooms, college clinic and up to the directorate of the school which formed the trajectory of the matter at hand.’’
